Shinobazuike Bentendo
There is a colorful small temple at the edge of the Shinobazu Pond in Ueno Park.
Benzaiten is enshrined in this temple.
Benzaiten is the God of Music and Performing Arts.
We often see the statues of Benzaiten in the form of holding a Biwa (four-stringed Japanese lute).
But this Benzaiten has eight arms and each arm brings weapons.
Instead, in front of the Temple there is a large stone monument of Biwa.
And there are many other monuments around this temple, too.
I introduce one of them to you.
It is the monument of “Yatsuhashi Kengyou” who is called the origin of today’s Koto music.
This large three-sided monument was built in 1966 celebrating 350 years of his birth by Nihon Sankyoku Kyoukai (Japanese association of Koto, Shamisen and Shakuhachi).
His history was written on the right side, and his great achievement on the left side.
You can see a big stone Koto in front of the monument, too.
Why don’t you go there when you visit to Ueno Park?
